Local crane makes work easier for builders
Many contractors on the South Coast find themselves in the position of requiring a crane to do heavy lifting on their construction site. Indeed, there is much need for a crane nowadays for lifting everything from airconditioners to trusses and steelwork. But builders in the region are often under the mistaken impression that such a crane has to be brought down from Durban – an expensive and logistically cumbersome exercise.
But that is no longer necessary because local firm Margate Engineering has invested in a versatile multi-purpose 15 ton crane with 20 metre boom. Dave Higson, who manages the company’s crane operations, says “We also supply the crane operator making it a one stop shop, so to speak, for all your heavy lifting and installation requirements. Because it’s all terrain and has 4 wheel drive, our crane is suitable for almost any building site. It also has a height and reach that exceed that of a normal truck crane.”
And having a crane for hire is far from the only thing Margate Engineering offers. Having been in the engineering business for more than 50 years, the company specialises in both the manufacture and installation of steel structures which is particularly helpful in large commercial projects.
